A Space for Reflection, Creativity, and Growth
Clinical supervision is often described as a space for reflection, support, and professional development. While these elements are essential, I believe supervision can be much more than simply talking through client work.
For me, supervision is a collaborative and creative process that helps practitioners deepen self-awareness, explore relational dynamics, strengthen confidence, and remain connected to the values that brought them into helping professions in the first place.
In the busy pace of professional life, it can be easy to move from one client to the next without fully processing what has been experienced. Supervision offers an opportunity to pause, step back, and reflect. It provides a space to think, feel, wonder, and make sense of the complexities that arise when working with others.
My approach to supervision is grounded in curiosity, compassion, creativity, and reflective practice. While discussion and dialogue remain important, I have found that some of our most meaningful insights emerge through creative exploration. Symbolism, metaphor, imagery, SandStory Therapy, and experiential activities can often help practitioners access deeper layers of reflection that may not always be reached through conversation alone.

Creative approaches within supervision are not about artistic ability. Rather, they provide alternative ways of exploring experience. A simple image, symbolic object, miniature figure, drawing, or metaphor can sometimes reveal aspects of a situation that have remained hidden or difficult to articulate. These approaches encourage supervisees to slow down, notice their internal responses, and develop a richer understanding of themselves, their clients, and the therapeutic relationship.
SandStory Therapy forms an integral part of my supervisory practice. Through the use of sand, miniature figures, and symbolic representation, supervisees are invited to externalise their experiences and view them from new perspectives. This process can support deeper reflection, increase awareness of relational patterns, and create opportunities for fresh insight and understanding.
Supervision is also a place to explore professional identity. Alongside client work, practitioners bring their own experiences, strengths, challenges, hopes, and uncertainties into the room. Through creative and reflective processes, supervision can help practitioners recognise their growth, reconnect with their values, and develop greater confidence in their professional role.
At its heart, supervision is not simply about solving problems. It is about creating a reflective space where learning can emerge, professional resilience can be strengthened, and practitioners can continue to grow throughout their careers.
Whether you are newly qualified, in supervision training, or an experienced practitioner seeking a more creative and reflective approach, my aim is to provide a supportive space where creativity and reflection deepen practice.
If you're looking for a clinical supervisor who combines reflection with creativity, I would be delighted to hear from you. Whether you're newly qualified, in training, or an experienced practitioner, I offer a supportive and collaborative space where curiosity, creativity, and reflection can deepen practice and encourage professional growth.
